Kochi: Students and teachers at Cusat mourned third-year electrical and electronics engineering (EEE) student Dhanush D of Alappuzha, who was found hanging at a private students' hostel beside the campus on Wednesday night. Body of the student was brought to the campus on Thursday, where students, teachers and university officials gathered, and university registrar placed a wreath on behalf of the university community to pay their last respects.
According to sources close to the university, vice-chancellor has asked registrar as well as controller of examinations at the university to conduct a probe and furnish a report by Saturday. University officials are likely to conduct hearings of principal, class teacher and his classmates before submission of the report.
"I have known him for the past three years. We were in the same class and same hostel. But the incident was sudden. I was not there at the hostel when the incident occurred, but the news shocked all of us," said a student who did not want to be named.
The student said Dhanush participated in a hackathon a few days before his death and has been active throughout his student career and denied rumours that the student committed suicide due to attendance shortage. "His mother comes here often; it was his mother who helped him find his room here. It did not appear that he had any problems with anyone and all his friends are devastated," said the student.
Meanwhile, some of the students who knew Dhanush said he was taking medication for depression. Funeral of Dhanush was held near his home at 5pm on Thursday.
